Some areas across East Central MS could see light frost tonight, so make sure you have your sensitive plants covered or brought in. That is just to be on the safe side. With skys clear and if winds can stay calm, temps can really fall fast this time of year.
Here is the hour by hour forecast for Meridian..

Here is the lows across Central MS from the National Weather Service in Jackson MS:

The weekend looks fine with comfortable highs and sunny afternoons, this is all before our next rain maker that arrives next week..
You can find more of these maps either on my blog or you can go to the original source: The National Weather Service.
Have a Great Halloween!

The Climate Prediction Center put out their drought monitor map on October 12th. At no surprise, the drought has worsen over the area.
The first map is for MS. A severe drought is present generally along and west of I-55 or close enough. A moderate drought is present for the rest of the state, with the exception of near the coast and Northeast part of MS where “Adnormally Dry” is shown. You cannot really see it, but there is a very small area of “severe drought” sneeking into western Issaquena County (west central MS.)

Unfortunately, based on the Climate Prediction Center, the 6-8 day rainfall outlook continues to show below average rainfall for Central MS and “well below” average for Northern MS. The exccption is near the coast where they have a equal chance of having a below, normal or above normal rainfall total.
The 8-14 day outlook does not really offer any hope either. Equal chance of above or below precip along the coastal counties of MS, below normal for central MS, and well below normal for the northern part of MS.
Here is drought map for Alabama. Unlike MS, AL has D3 (severe drought) across several counties (9% of AL in a Severe Drought.)

Comparing to last year at this time, MS was 100% normal (meaning there was no drought). Alabama is was the same way, 100% normal.
Overall, Mississippi beating Alabama in the drought percentage. 46.8% of the state is in a Severe or worse drought compared to only 38.7% in AL.
For more information on the drought and the outlook for precip in the next 1 to 3 months, visit the “Climate Prediction Center” website.
A cold front swept through bringing with it a return in moisture and enough instability to set off showers and storms across the area.. Unfortunately, no everyone received a big amount of rain. Very few hit 1 inch or more. By what I can see, the best area of rainfall stretched from Little Rock in Newton through Nellieburg to Pine Springs Road, and points just east towards Marion.
Pea size hail did occur NW of Meridian.
Here is the rainfall totals that I could find. I just looked for the totals across East Central MS..
